Creative writing competitions you can enter now

There’s an abundance of creative writing competitions open to people from all over the world, of any age. Some offer fantastic prizes, including publishing contracts, mentoring from manuscript to publication, and cash rewards. Below we’ve listed just a few. Now that you have a list of competitions to enter, it’s time to put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard to craft your entries. Most writers have trouble with writer's block at some stage. Happy writing and good luck! 29th April 2016: BBC Young Writers' Award with BookTrust 2016 Open to young people who live in the UK, entrants are asked to create stories of up to 1000 words on any topic. Judges are looking for stories that demonstrate real imagination and creativity, with high quality writing that can captivate the reader. read more 30th April 2016: Creativate National Writing Competition 2016 This writing competition is open to people living in the UK over the age of 18. They are looking for works of fiction in various categories, including crime/mystery, science fiction, fantasy, romance, and more. Prizes include cash rewards between £50 and £250, grants to attend a writing course and publication in the UK Creative Arts 2016 Annual Report. read more 1st June 2016: The Impress Prize for New Writers Open to writers of any nationality writing in English, aged 16 and over, this competition accepts fiction and non-fiction. Submit a book proposal and a sample chapter of no more than 6,000 words. The winner is offered a publishing contract with Impress books. read more 6th June 2016: Words with JAM The Big Five Competition! Open to any writer, anywhere in the world, with a complete unpublished manuscript of up to 100,000 words, this competition has a truly amazing prize - a year’s mentoring from Triskele Books, from manuscript to publication, worth over £5000! read more 30th June 2016: Flash Fiction Competition Now in its seventh year, this quarterly open-themed competition for fiction of up to 500 words has closing dates of 30th June, 30th September and 31st December. First prize is £300 plus publication in Words with JAM. There a several runner-up prizes too. read more 31st July 2016: Artificium Competition The Artificium Competition has two categories: • Short Stories - for stories between 2,000-8,000 words, in English, any style, genre or theme • In Brief - for writing between 500-1,000 words, in English, including, flash fiction, poetry and everything in between. The first prize in the short stories category is £300 and £150 in the In Brief Category, along with publication on the Artificium website. read more Go back
